JW FFA places in the Triple Crown and Safety at State FFA Convention
June 03, 2009
Jefferson West FFA members attended the State FFA Convention May 27-29 in Manhattan at Kansas State University where they were recognized with a 12th place finish in the National Chapter Competition. The award recognizes the activities that the chapter completes in the areas of Chapter, Student and Community Development. The chapter placed in the gold division in the areas of student and community development and in the silver division with chapter development. The overall combination of the three areas placed them in 12th overall out of 168 chapters in the state. This placing qualifies the chapter to compete in the National Chapter Competition at the National Convention in Indianapolis in October.
The chapter also competed in the State Chapter Safety Program where they placed third in the State among all chapters. The students use the safety activities presented at the Jefferson County Ag Day in April as the basis for their application. The chapter works in conjunction with Jefferson County Farm Bureau Association to present the safety information to county third graders. Kansas Farm Bureau sponsors the safety competition and rewarded the Jefferson West FFA Chapter with a $100 check for its contribution to safety education in Kansas.
