Welcome to Jefferson West Elementary School for the 2010-2011 school year. We are excited that you are here and are ready to meet the learning needs of each student in our school. This will be an exciting for year for our students as our teachers are eager to help them learn all that they can. The addition of the 4th grade to our Elementary building will bring many opportunities to our students and staff on our journey throughout the year. It is our desire that each child have a full and rewarding educational experience. Our mission is to prepare students to meet the challenges of tomorrows' opportunities. When you think about it some of the careers that we are preparing students to be successful in have not even been developed. One of the opportunities that our staff is working hard on is providing the proper framework of knowledge, competencies, and skills that each student will need to successfully address their life's ambitions. The importance of good reading skills, the ability to make “meaning of numbers” and solve problems, and a grasp of effective communication skills including those in writing and speaking as well as the arts is the foundation of our curriculum. Students will be afforded many opportunities to build existing skills and acquire new skills throughout the year in a manner that is meaningful to them. Parents will be a key partner in this endeavor we call education. Your encouragement, concern, and support of your child’s efforts as he/she meets obstacles along the way will help build his/her ability to learn and utilize knowledge successfully. We look forward to working with each student and their family and helping each child grow academically, socially, and physically. Be a partner with us in this journey of learning.
