FCCLA attends Take AIM Leadership Conference
September 10, 2010
On August 29-30, six FCCLA members from Jefferson West Middle School and High School attended the Take AIM Leadership Conference at the Webster Conference Center in Salina, Kansas. Over 450 students attended the workshop along with 75 advisers across the state of Kansas to come together to learn ways to motivate their chapter members, build membership, develop leadership skills and promote their Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapters. Students attended workshops lead by motivational speakers Rhett Laubach and Patty Hendrickson to plan their Program of Work for the year and to work together as a team to problem solve. Advisers received training from National Executive Council member Nicole Ruge from Georgia on officer leadership and building FCCLA programs through membership campaigns and public relations. Advisers networked by sharing success stories about their own chapters and did activities to strategize ways to improve their own chapter programs. Students interacted with each other from all areas of the state of Kansas to learn how FCCLA is making an impact within their own schools and communities.
Jefferson Westt High School chapter member, Danielle Steffey who is the District E-West President this year, along with JWHS chapter members Kailee Gibson (V.P. of Finance), and Madison Fangman (V.P. of Membership), lead the District E-West meeting prior to the Take AIM conference. Other chapter officers in attendance were Sarah Allison (JWHS) V.P. of Public Relations, Alex Thornburgh (JWHS) V.P. of Membership and Michael Majors V. P. of Membership (JWMS) along with Mrs. Abbott their adviser.
This year's Kansas theme will be "Launching Leaders for 65 Years", as FCCLA celebrates its 65th year and the JWHS and JWMS chapter theme will be "Rock Around The Clock With FCCLA". This year National FCCLA has chosen to support the Chilldren's Miracle Network again for its National Community Service Project and both chapters will be selling links for fifty cents to donate to the CMN fund. Last year over $650,000 was raised for CMN by all the FCCLA chapters across the nation.
