3. Our JWMS FCCLA chapter was featured twice in the National Teen Times FCCLA magazine which is sent through out the United States to paid members. Alex Thornburgh, Chase Holthaus, and Jace Holmes appeared as representatives who did a canned good drive last year for the Jefferson County Salvation Army. Hunter Christenson, Sarah Allison, Sami Montgomery and Shelby Sage were featured for having adopted 3 families last year from God's Storehouse and spending $300 on them for Christmas as well as ringing the Salvation Army's kettle bell at Country Harvest in Meriden for 8 hours.
4. Jeff West Middle School FCCLA members have been busy with their community service project this school year which includes promoting awareness of childhood cancer and raising money for the Dman Hero Foundation. The foundation assists families in Northeast Kansas by providing gift cards and other financial assistance to families who have a child that is being treated for childhood cancer. The members of FCCLA have sponsored a "hat day" at JWMS which brought in $146.00. During the hat day students could wear a hat for a fee that will then be given to the foundation. The group plans to hold another "hat day" during the first week of February to celebrate FCCLA week. This money will also be donated. The students are seen in this photo at Country Harvest in Meriden where they passed out informational brochures to customers. The project leaders also sent a video message to the Jefferson County and Meriden city councils about their project. On tap for this week is a penny drive at the Jefferson West Elementary schools to benefit the foundation as well. To find out more information about the Dman Hero Foundation, you can go to http://www.dmanhero.com/, pick up a brochure or make a contribution to the JWMS FCCLA Community Service project at Liberty in Valley Falls, MaxMart or ZZzzz in Meriden, and Rees Fruit Farm at K-4 and 24 Hwy. The project team plans are to present all proceeds from the project to the Dman Hero Foundation representative during FCCLA week at JWMS.
