Dman Hero Foundation

By Leslie Abbott

February 11, 2010

On February 2, 2010 the Jefferson West Middle School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter held an assembly for the Dman Hero Foundation.  The foundation helps to provide money for families of North East Kansas that need assistance with hotel accommodations, meals, and expenses when traveling to receive treatment for their child who has cancer.  The foundation was set up by Janelle and Lance Feyh in honor of their son, Daegen, who lost his battle with Myelogenous Leukemia .  Jefferson West Middle School FCCLA chapter members Madison Fangman, Kailee Gibson and Bailee Steffey created a campaign to bring about awareness of childhood cancer and organized a donation drive for the foundation.  The three chapter members presented the Feyh family a check for $1555.41 for the foundation for families who need financial assistance.  The students have passed out brochures on the foundation and organized a penny drive at JeffersonWest Elementary School.  The students sponsored two hat days where they charged money for students to be allowed to wear hats to school and charged admission for a dance for the middle school.  They also created a video to share at the January Jefferson County Commissioners meeting about Daegan, the foundation and childhood cancer. Pictured are--back row from left to right Scott Myers(Superintendent USD 340), Dreana McClurg (BoE USD 340), Shannon McMahon (BoE USD 340), Don Knowles (BoE USD 340), and Jeff Feyh (Daegan's uncle).  Front Row from left to right:  Bailee Steffey, Kailee Gibson, Madison Fangman, Alexa Feyh (Daegan's sister),  Lance Feyh (Daegan's father),  and Angie Feyh (Daegan's aunt).
