Congratulations, Jefferson West Journalism!
For the second year in a row, JWHS produced the best news writer in Kansas 3/4A competition.
Six regional competitions across the state decided six top competitors in February, and those 36 winners in each category competed against one another Saturday, May 5 at KSPA state journalism at KU.
Sophomore Riley Buss, who joined the journalism department last fall, took first in news writing, beating out 35 other top-notch writers from across the state. Senior Kensley Fleischer, yearbook editor the last two years, took first in caption writing, competing handily against similar odds.
Senior Rachel Bell, news magazine editor, took second, defeating 34 other journalism students in copy writing, and she also earned an honorable mention for caption writing Saturday.
Graduate Anna Mooradian, now studying journalism at KU, earned the recognition of first place in new writing last May.
