David Jensen Jefferson West USD 340
How long have you been a school board member? Two years.
Why did you decide to become a board member? I have a sincere desire to serve my community. I am a highly motivated and driven person. I believe my personal and professional experience will help maximize the potential of this district. More importantly I have pride in my community and I want to see the spread throughout this district.
Who was an adult you looked up to when you were growing up and why? My father. I have never known a man to work as hard as him and take so little for himself.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? Mr. Smith. His unique teaching style challenged me to think in a way I was likely too lazy to do as a teenager. He taught me nothing is free, everything is earned.
What do you do outside of being a board member? My wife and I are raising two young boys who never stop. We spend a lot of time on ball fields. When my wife isn’t looking I like to sneak in the occasional round of golf or hit the trails on my mountain bike.
What experience do you bring to the table that will improve your local school district?
I run a crop insurance agency with my father. We specialize in relationships and service beyond compare. It is our job to help our clients minimize risk in one of the world’s most volatile marketplaces. Prior to becoming a crop agent I worked for a large financial institution where I worked directly on financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. In addition to my professional experience I am highly involved in my community. I’ve served on various Boards within my community and am actively committed to providing for the community in which I live in. I continue to be involved in youth programs as a coach, volunteer and advocate for program improvement and fund raising.
As a board member, what is the top goal you have this year? Facilitate a budget that provides for quality programs and opportunities through sound fiscal decisions.
What is a saying or quote that you live by? “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” – Steve Jobs
