Tehya Starr Wins Top Awards at Scholastics
Congratulations to Tehya Starr of Jefferson West High School in Meriden whose photograph "Junk" was awarded the national American Visions Medal for the Eastern Kansas Region in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Tehya’s photograph will be recognized at an awards ceremony at Mark Arts Museum in Wichita this Saturday. She is invited to receive her National Gold Key and American Vision Award at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
The American Visions Medals, the highest regional honors, are given to one artist from each region.
Five works of writing and five works of art from each region are selected by local judges as American Voices & Visions nominees, who are then celebrated in local exhibitions and ceremonies. From the pool of nominees, a panel of jurors in New York City selects one artist from each region to receive an American Visions Medal, a non-financial highest regional honor. These Medalists are celebrated during National Events and at the National Exhibition in New York City.
