Five students from Jeff West schools were selected to be in the KMEA All-State Elementary Choir this year.

They are:         Harriet Dean (daughter of William & Haley Dean)

Sophia Hinkle (daughter of Lori Hinkle and Mark Hinkle)

Emma Ketchem (daughter of Mark & Christy Ketchem)

Leroy Staniec (son of Eric & Mindy Staniec)

Violette Whipp (daughter of George & Mikala Whipp)

They rehearsed all day and then sang in a concert as part of the Kansas Music Educators Association’s In-Service Workshop in Wichita on February 27.  The choir consisted of 160 singers in grades 3, 4, and 5.  They were selected from over 700 auditions state-wide.

Being selected for All-State is an incredible honor and opportunity.  Students learn challenging 2- and 3-part choral pieces and work with world-class conductors and clinicians.

In their own words:

Harriet - “My favorite part was performing in the big concert hall.  I also enjoyed spending the day in Wichita and working with Mrs. K and the other kids.  Oh, and lunch was awesome!”

Sophia - “My favorite part was singing in the concert hall.”

Emma - “My favorite thing was seeing my family and making new friends.”

Leroy - “I loved learning new songs and singing in front of about 3,000 people.”

Violette - “My favorite part was the concert.”
