MS Vocal Concert Dress Code
Wanted to let you know what the expectations are for concert dress for the concerts coming up in December, March and May. I have always found, as a choral director and music adjudicator for 30 years, that an ensemble that looks good will sound better to the audience for which they are performing. Even if everything else is identical, the ensemble that takes pride in how they look is perceived as sounding better. This is why I would like all my singers to wear clothes that are, perhaps, nicer than what they would wear to school.
I would like all my girls to wear either a dress, a skirt or skort to their concerts with a top as dictated by the weather (blouse, sweater, etc.). I would hope that no one goes out and purchases a new outfit but I know that sometimes this is what happens. If you do purchase a new outfit please try to get one that is comfortable and conservative as the girls will be sitting down on the bleachers in them when they are not singing. Also, try not to have your daughter wear an outfit that is overly warm as it does get hot in the gym, or on stage at the high school, when they are performing.
I would like for them to wear a nice pair of slacks (Dockers, etc.) if they have them and a nice shirt (polo or front button style) or sweater. I do ask that the boys do not wear any clothing with large product advertising or writing on it. A small logo is fine but nothing that stands out. I would like the boys to wear a nice pair of dress shoes, or cowboy boots, to complete the look. For those boys that do not have a nice pair of slacks and/or dress shoes then I would want them to wear their nicest/cleanest pair of pants (blue jeans or khakis) they have along with the cleanest pair of tennis shoes they have.
If anyone has any questions about this please contact me at the middle school during my planning period between 10:50 and 11:50 AM. I look forward to seeing everyone at the concert!!!
