Physical Focus
“Learning Responsibility Through Physical Activity”
Instructor : Mr. Hypse
What you need:
- District Issued Physical Education Shirt
- District Issued Physical Education Shorts
- Socks
- Athletic shoes
- It is important to label all clothing, so misplaced items can be returned to you.
- Other items you may want to bring are deodorant, combs, brushes, towels, other personal items.
Wash clothes as needed – at least once a week.
What will be provide for you:
• Soap / shampoo
• Lockers
• Locks
• IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOT SHARE YOUR LOCKER COMBINATION WITH OTHERS.
Upon Arrival
1. Be inside the locker room before the bell rings.
2. Be dressed in PE clothes within 5 minutes after the bell rings.
3. When dismissed from the locker room, we will proceed to the gym.
4. Gym time will last approximately 40 minutes.
5. When dismissed from the gym we will go back to locker room to cleanup and change. Those students who shower will have 10 minutes to shower and get dressed. (All students must change back into school clothes, students will not be permitted to wear their PE clothes to other classes.)
RULES: OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE LAW OF THE GYM LAND
• Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
• Be courteous and respectful, no name calling, put downs, etc.
• No profanity
• Follow teacher instruction and directions each day.
• Leave equipment alone unless instructed
• Be a good sport
• Consequences will be enforced for your actions if you choose to break the rules.
GRADING:
- Students have the opportunity to earn 10 points daily.
- 2 points for having their own PE shirt
- 2 points for having their own PE shorts
- 1 points for having athletic shoes (MUST BE LACED AND TIED)
- 5 points for different levels of responsibility
- Level 1 Irresponsibility
Students who operate at Level 1 make excuses and blame others for their behavior and deny personal responsibility for what they do or fail to do. No self control or ability to resolve conflict. Abusive, negative, disruptive.
- Level 2 Self Control and Respect
Students at level 2 may not participate in the day’s activities or show much mastery or improvement, but they are able to control their behavior enough so that they do not interfere with the other student’s right to learn or the teacher’s right to teach. They do this without much prompting by the teacher and without constant supervision. Cruising in neutral, but not bothering anybody.
- Level 3 Involvement
Students at level 3 not only show at least minimal respect for others, but also are willing to play, accept challenges, practice motor skills and train for fitness under the teacher’s supervision. Participates with reservation and only when supervised.
- Level 4 Self Responsibility
Students at level 4 not only show respect and participate, but they are also able to work without direct supervision. They can identify their own needs and begin to plan to carry out their physical education program. Is able to participate without being watched and stays on task.
- Level 5 Caring
Students at level 5, in addition to respecting others, participating and being self-directed, are motivated to extend their sense of responsibility beyond themselves by cooperating, giving support, showing concern, helping and teaching others. Concern with the progress of others.
GRADING SCALE
• 100% - 90% = A
• 89% - 80% = B
• 79% - 70% = C
• 69% - 60% = D
• 59% and below = F
A note from a parent/guardian or doctor must be delivered to be excused from the class.
