6th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES

MR. SIDENER

What do we study in 6th grade Social Studies?

We study world history and focus on some of the following

l   Ancient Mesopotamia

l   Ancient Egypt

l   Ancient China

l   Ancient Greece

l   Ancient Rome

l   Medieval Europe

l   Renaissance

l   Industrial Revolution

l   Age of Discovery

 

What materials will help me be successful?

l   Colored Pencils

l   Ruler

l   Red pen/pencil (bring daily)

l   Pencil or black/blue pen

l   A pocket folder and notebook paper

l   Spiral notebook

How am I being graded?

l   Tests/Quizzes (50%)

l   Projects  & Daily Work (50%)

 

What happens if I am not in my seat by the end of the bell?

l   TARDY

l   Must get in your seat without running

l   If you need extra time, just ask.

Do I ever get to leave this classroom?

l   You may use a pass to leave the room for rest room or your locker.

l   Be responsible

l   Too many times and you will not be allowed to leave the room.

I heard we can bring food, drinks, and candy into your room.  Is that true?

lNO

l   But you may chew gum if you don’t blow bubbles, chomp, or make a mess with it.

l   You may bring BOTTLED water-

If someone leaves a book from the previous hour, what should I do?

l   Place it in the lost and found box in  the front of the room

Can I leave my things is the aisle?

l   NO!

l   Store them on or under your desk

Sometimes I write sloppy.  What advice do you have for me?

l   Take your time

l   Print if you have to

l   It doesn’t have to be a work of art……I just have to be able to read it.

I heard that you have to wait until I dismiss you to leave the class when the bell rings.  Is this true?

l   Yes!

l   This clearly is a brilliant class.

What should I bring to class daily?

l   Text

l   Agenda

l   Paper

l   Pencil/Pen

l   Red Pen

What happens if I turn in an assignment late?

l    You have 25% taken off of your grade until the test until the test is given.

l    After the test, the assignment may be turned in for 50% of the grade until the end of the quarter.

l    But that is better than a Zero if you don’t turn anything in.

l    You will be ok unless it becomes a habit.

What happens if I bomb a test.

l   You can retake it or complete a lengthy assignment determined by Mr. Sidener.  But you cannot make a higher grade than 75% on a retake.

How should I label my papers?

l   If it is a worksheet, put your name in the space provided.

l   If there is no place for a name, put it in the upper right hand corner of the page.

l   1st & Last Name

l   Your class period

l   Page (if from the text)

What are your expectations for this year?

l   I look forward to this being a great school year.

l   Remember, everyone has a new start.
