Patriot Day is a United States national observance that honors the memory of those who were killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, as well as the first responders and others who died or were injured during the attacks.
It was first observed in 2002, after the proclamation by President George W. Bush. On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda launched a series of coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States, killing almost 3,000 people. A year later, September 11 was made a national day of mourning referred to as Patriot Day.
It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and prayer, with a presidential proclamation calling for flags to be flown at half-staff and a moment of silence to be observed at 8:46 a.m. EST.

New Outdoor Warning Siren being installed to replace the older siren located at Bowser Meat Processing at 513 S. Palmberg, in Meriden.
This Siren is a Model 2001-130 and will have a warning range of 1 1/2 miles and a broadcast of 120-130 DB. This will provide warnings to the football stadium and residents in the area for many years. The old siren was an ACA-Banshee with a range of 1/2 mile and was 40 to 60 years old.
Thank You to the Meriden City Council for upgrading the siren to help protect people and students.
