Hello Friends of Jefferson West High School and Community Members!

Have you ever paid a bill? Are you 18 or older? Would you enjoy a fun opportunity to help students learn real-life financial skills? If you answered yes, we’d love for you to join us as a volunteer for Reality U, our interactive financial simulation!

What is Reality U?
Students will complete a pre-survey about the lifestyle they hope to have at age 26. During the event, they’ll receive a “paycheck” based on their survey and navigate real-world expenses—like housing, transportation, phone plans, and more.

What will you do as a volunteer?
You’ll run a booth as a sales representative (housing, utilities, transportation, etc.), helping students make financial decisions. Don’t worry—all booth information and training will be provided. We just need YOU!

This is a great opportunity to connect with students and help them see how their education today impacts their financial future tomorrow.

Caps and pens at the ready, a new class of recruits arrive on campus TODAY at 9:30am to sign letters of intent for our National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day. New students, enrolled in the upcoming fall semester, take part in a signing ceremony that is similar to an athletic signing in Washburn Tech’s Conference Center.

Washburn Tech's event mirrors the NCAA's National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. Students sign a letter of intent and don a Washburn Tech cap. The ceremony is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.

Washburn Tech hosted the first signing more than 10 years ago. Now, more than 65 institutions around the country join Washburn Tech in signing students to a letter of intent.

Washburn Tech will sign more than 300 incoming students during National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day today. Washburn University administrators will be in attendance to congratulate students on their decision. Friends and family are welcome to attend this special event to show support, as are local dignitaries and corporate partners.

Softball players to watch!

Emmie Dean was a big-time impact freshman for Jefferson West, helping the Tigers return to the state tournament for the first time since 2015. Dean set a school record for hits in a season with 51, finishing with a .477 average. She only struck out 5 times as well. Dean scored 32 runs and stole 19 bases, earning first-team All-Big East League honors as West finished with a 22-6 record.

Ashley Moser is a player who does a little bit of everything for the Tigers, Moser is what Jefferson West coach Maddy Barger calls “Clutch Factory.” She had 25 RBI last year, most of those coming with two outs as Moser came up big time and time again in helping the Tigers return to the Class 3A state tournament for the first time since winning the Class 4A Division II title in 2015. Moser finished the season with a .307 batting average with 3 home runs among her 25 hits. She also stole 10 bases and also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage playing a variety of positions. She earned first-team All-Big East League honors as a utility player.

Youth softball night was a success and the Lady Tigers went ahead and put on a show even though the lightning tried to steal our thunder. There’s a pun in there somewhere.
