The SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group met with Nurse Abby and SRO Dana Boyer to have a workshop luncheon. The presentation covered information about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and learning basic life saving tips. Thank you Abby and Dana!

HS Baseball Game Change 3/23/23 due to field conditions. We will be moving location to the KCKCC baseball field. We will be playing 1 varsity game at 4:00 with 1 JV game following on Thursday. The Senior English class was honored to have to Vietnam Veterans, Laurel Bennet and Rick Smoots visit their class. The class is reading the novel "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. The veterans were able to share their experiences and help bring home the realism of what it was like to be a soldier in the Vietnam war. Thank you to both of these men for their service and sacrifices and their willingness to share their journey with our students.

During the first semester of classes, Mr. Buss’ Advance Ag Mechanics students constructed a shed for a patron of the district. Conversations began last spring and with the start of classes this fall the students were able to complete the whole facet of drawing working diagrams, calculating materials to be used and putting together a bid for the individual. After the bid was approved, the individual purchased the materials and the students began construction of the 12’x20’ shed supplying the labor. The building of the shed was done by nine students throughout the semester in the Ag Facility. When it came time to move the shed to the property owners location, Mr. Bowen’s weights class was called in to help with the heavy lifting. The shed as placed on the trailer and transported to the location and the students then assisted as well in the unloading and placement. Final placement and anchoring was completed during the second semester by Advanced Ag Mechanics students. Students now are working on building hog pens for the Jefferson County Fair in partnership with the Jefferson County Fair Board. Attention Tiger Fans! Unsportsmanlike incidents happened at Perry on Tuesday night in both crowds. These events have been investigated and have been addressed at Perry-Lecompton. I was updated last evening that the locker room perpetrator has been removed from further attendance and an apology was passed to me for the unsettling parking lot actions. This was addressed to both administration and fans, so I have included it.

Forensics participants doing great! Congratulations to Carolyn Small, Natalie Meyer, and Leena Turner, who have all qualified for STATE! Caroline will compete in Prose at state, while Natalie and Leena will compete in Duet Acting. Pictured are Natalie and Leena with medals from the league competition. State competition will take place in May. Good luck with the rest of your season, ladies.

The Big 7 League and Mid-East League Seek Merger Administration from the Big 7 and Mid-East Leagues have met and are communicating in regard to a potential merger of these historically successful high school conferences. School representatives seek the merger to improve scheduling logistics, increase academic and extracurricular opportunities, and further elevate the reputations these two tremendous leagues already possess. The Mid-East League, formed in 1948, currently consists of Riley County, Rock Creek, Rossville, Silver Lake, St. Marys, and Wabaunsee, with Rock Creek departing to join the NCKL at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. The Big 7, formed in 1926, currently consists of Hiawatha, Holton, Jefferson West, Nemaha Central, Perry-Lecompton, Riverside, Royal Valley, and Sabetha with Riverside leaving at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. The two leagues will continue to meet independently and collaboratively to work towards a potential merger with the possibility of competition to begin during the 2024-2025 school year.
