High School Varsity FB at Hiawatha 7 PM Kickoff. 600 Red Hawk Dr, Hiawatha, KS 66434, USA

Dear Jeff West parents and patrons,
JW High School has started a new CTE program in the healthcare field this year. The new class of Health Science will be available to students this fall. In the first few weeks of class, the students will research careers in the Health Science field and present a presentation to the class. This project divides up the areas of the medical field by occupational area.
o Therapeutic Services
o Diagnostic Services
o Health Informatics
o Support Services
o Biotechnology Research and Development
After they complete their project, I would like the students to email a real healthcare professional in the area. I am reaching out to you to make a list of adults who would be willing to receive an email from the student answering the questions I have listed below. Digging in and making real connections to real healthcare professionals adds authenticity and great meaning for students taking Health Science. Students will be surprised at how much they learn from simply connecting with (at minimum) two different people working in the field. This activity allows for even more depth of learning plus excellent practice in building a network – an essential professional skill.
∙ Students will be researching these five questions:
○ WHO? Who is this person? Job title and key responsibilities + how long they have been in their current role as a professional.
○ WHAT? What do they do? What population of patients/clients/professionals do they serve? What does a typical day-to-day schedule look like?
○ WHEN? When were they able to start working in this role? Please describe the timeline and path for their education. How long did it take for them to achieve their degree or certification?
○ WHERE? Where do they work? Is their workplace a public or private institution? Do they work for a healthcare business, government agency, or non-profit agency?
○ WHY? Why do they do what they do? What's their motivation or purpose? Why should (or shouldn't) you consider going into the same healthcare profession?
∙ If you are willing, I ask you to respond to me with your name, email, and occupation or complete the Google Form below. I will list all the contacts I receive and share them with the students for them to take the next step. Please respond by Sept. 11th.
Students will then reach out by email.
