National Convention Day 2 - Full day of touring. We started at the National FFA Center in Indianapolis. We toured the offices, history and memorabilia of headquarters of the FFA. We found the Kansas FFA rock!

We then traveled to Louisville to see Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. We were shown the main race track were training and racing occurs daily, the lower facility and the museum. We learned a lot about the history of horse racing not just about the winning horses but also the people of care for them, the jockeys, the farriers, and the owners. We were amazed how enormous the all encompassing that race facility was.

We then traveled to Louisville Slugger where they continue to manufacture wood baseball bats for all leagues of baseball. We toured the machining shop where a basic piece of selected birch, ash or maple is turned into a custom bat. The engineering and art that it takes to make a piece of timber into a bat is amazing. We were able to try out different major league players bats.

Finally we took a short walk to the Ohio River front in Louisville. There was some barge traffic that slowly passed by as we watch the river roll on. Then we walked to our supper location close by at Joe’s Crab Shack. We really enjoyed the unique dining atmosphere, the conversation and the food! Afterwards we headed back to the hotel for the evening and rest. It was a full, good day.

National Convention Day 1 - We started early with heading to the National Convention and Expo. We were able to look and learn about different opportunities in Agriculture. Then we headed to Lucas Oil Stadium to the opening session of the National FFA Convention. We listened to National Officer presentations, National FFA Chorus and Band, National FFA Advisor’s challenge “to Empower” ourselves to do more and the keynote speaker motivational A’ric Jackson to “get out of your box”. We finally made it back to the hotel late and tired. It was a great day of learning, exploring and goal setting. We have more to come today.

National FFA Convention Travel Day 1 - Yesterday was an exciting day of travel. We loaded up on the charter bus in Hiawatha with Sabetha and headed to our first stop at Wilhite and Frees Speciality Equine Hospital outside of Kansas City. Got some lunch in Columbia, MO. Then we traveled and visited the Arch in St. Louis, MO. Ate at the Sawmill BBQ restaurant just a few minutes down the road. Then finally arrived at our overnight stop in Greenville, IL. The bus has been fun to listen to all of the new conversations the different chapters are having with each other too. Today will be another adventure as we get to the Indianapolis Convention Center and see the opening session of National FFA Convention.

Our JWHS FCCLA kids got into the action at the trunk or treat event hosted by the Meriden/Ozawkie Area Chamber of Commerce. They passed out food and drink to all of the local trunk or treaters.

Fall is in full swing, and that means daylight saving time will draw to a close and end on the first Sunday in November at 2am, when clocks "fall back" an hour.

Daylight saving time was first established in the U.S. by Congress after the Calder Act, or the Standard Time Act of 1918, was passed more than 100 years ago and was more recently amended with the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Halloween is an annual celebration on October 31st with origins in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which later merged with Christian observances like All Hallows' Eve. Modern traditions include wearing costumes, trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins (jack-o'-lanterns), and decorating. The holiday has evolved to incorporate both a spooky cultural theme and spiritual meanings related to transformation and the afterlife.

Attention Class of 2026 ~ Jostens will be at the High School today to present graduation items they have available for purchase. Their items have everything you need to take on your final year of high school with confidence and make graduation season extra special. Graduation packages are also available for order.

It's time for another great night of hometown football with the Jefferson West Tigers hosting the Anderson County Bulldogs in the Week 9 Playoffs! The action kicks off at 7pm. Let's continue to pack the stands and support our team!

Any 7th-12th graders interested in Weststeppers? Come see what it’s about in a low stress environment on 11/4 at the High School, 6-7pm! We will learn an actual sideline we do on the team and do a skill part to learn a then, leap, or something of that nature. Get a portfolio together before trying out in the spring! Come see us! 🎉
